After a collision in Alberta, physiotherapy is generally available through your automobile insurer’s accident benefits, regardless of who was at fault. Treatment usually does not require payment up front, and you do not need a lawyer to start.

The paperwork is the part that stops people. There are forms, timelines and a protocol, and most of it is opaque unless someone explains it. We handle that side so your appointment time goes on treatment.

What we treat after a collision

Whiplash and neck pain. Mid and low back pain. Shoulder and seatbelt injuries. Headaches that started after the collision. Stiffness and reduced movement that makes driving, working or sleeping difficult.

Symptoms often peak two or three days after the accident rather than immediately. Feeling reasonably alright at the roadside does not mean you are uninjured, which is why people frequently underestimate what has happened to them.

How the Alberta process works

Alberta has a defined protocol for injuries after a motor vehicle accident. In practice it means treatment is generally funded through your own automobile insurer’s accident benefits, whoever caused the collision.

You report the accident to your insurer and get a claim number. You book with us and bring that number. We complete the required assessment and reporting and submit it to the insurer directly.

If you do not have a claim number yet, book anyway. We can start and attach the number when it comes through.

We handle the paperwork

The protocol carries forms and reporting obligations at defined points, and getting them wrong or late causes delays and denials. That is administration, not healthcare, and it is our job rather than yours.

What we need from you is the claim number, the insurer’s name, and the date of the collision.

Why starting sooner matters

Two reasons, and only one of them is clinical.

Clinically, early movement and treatment generally make recovery from this kind of injury more straightforward than several weeks of guarding and stiffening. Administratively, the accident benefits protocol has time limits built into it, and access can become more complicated once those pass.

If you are undecided because you feel manageable, that is exactly the point at which booking is easy.

Is this you

After a collision

Whiplash and neck pain

Pain, stiffness and headaches that often arrive a day or two after the collision rather than at the scene.

Back and shoulder injury

Seatbelt and bracing injuries, and pain that started once the adrenaline wore off.

Unsure what you are entitled to

Alberta has a defined process after a collision and most people have never had to use it before.

Questions

What people ask before they book

Do I pay anything?
Generally not for approved treatment under accident benefits. We bill the insurer directly. If anything falls outside coverage, we tell you before it happens.
Do I need a lawyer?
Not to begin treatment. Whether you need legal advice for other parts of a claim is a separate question and not one we advise on.
What if the accident was my fault?
Accident benefits in Alberta generally apply regardless of fault.
What if symptoms appeared days later?
That is common with whiplash-type injuries. Report it to your insurer and book. Delayed onset does not mean the injury is not real.
Can I choose my own clinic?
Yes. An insurer may suggest a provider, but the choice is yours.
What if my claim is denied?
Talk to us. Depending on the reason, treatment may still be claimable through your own extended health benefits.
